Spotlight: Wright Brothers Soho

This week we had the opportunity to visit Wright Brothers restaurant right in the heart of Soho within Kingly Court and discover their abundance of oysters, fish and seafood menu for ourselves. Their semi-private dining room, which is intriguingly named “The Oyster Cage”, is on a lower floor from the main restaurant space, surrounded by the buzz of an open kitchen. As the name suggests, the space is surrounded by iron caging which gives up to 18 diners a sense of being the Chefs’ “catch of the day” whilst they are able to watch the team hard at work serving sea to plate as they preach.

Private Dining London were invited to have a first taste of some of the dishes from their Christmas Events Menus ahead of the busy Christmas season in their private dining room. The Soho offering of their restaurant portfolio focuses on a more Asian inspiration so we were excited to experience their Asian take on festivities.

In full Wright Brother fashion, we started with a delicious platter of 6 oysters, a teasing start to the Dinner. Refreshing and delicate they soon disappeared. We can see how they are so popular for their daily £1 an oyster between 3pm and 6pm. For starters, we were served the Soft Shell Crab with a delicious green mango, cauliflower and tamarind dressing as well as the chargrilled wild king prawns with a light and unusual accompaniment of chilli, pancetta, cabbage and daikon. Both starters were winners in our eyes.

Out came the whole sea bass for main course which was pan fried and served with preserved lemon and olive salsa. The sea bass is generous and the perfect alternative to the predictable turkey main course for any party. We also opted for the salmon and clam chowder pie which was rich, hearty and beautifully cooked creamy fish filling. We enjoyed a warming side of roasted pumpkin, charred spring onions and ginger.

For dessert, we ate their classic Chocolate Fondant served with a sharp yoghurt and sesame tuile and we found the perfect Christmas indulgence in the Berry & White Chocolate, Red Velvet Trifle which we loved.

The chefs didn’t fail to delight through the food and their professionalism whilst they surrounded us in the private dining area. The evening was a pleasure and really started to get us excited for the Christmas season. If you aren’t keen on turkey and looking for a private dining space that offers a seafood inspired festive menu The Wright Brothers Soho is for you. Service was personal and formal whilst also creating a happy, relaxing environment.
