Spotlight: Duck & Waffle

The private dining room at Duck & Waffle

Taking our team breakfast to new heights this week, we enjoyed seats at London’s much-loved Duck & Waffle, Bishopsgate. Their popular private dining room, which is attached to the 24-hour restaurant on the 40th floor of Heron Tower, provides a very special view of the City. Duck & Waffle has become a staple of the City dining scene with tables available to book only a couple of months in advance and if you’d like to book their private dining space, this works the same way. Our Private Dining London tip? It is vital to remember that key dates get snapped up as soon as reservations open each day, we wouldn’t want you missing out.

Recently we featured their private dining room in our Pick of Private Dining Rooms Under 20 Guests and taking up to 18 guests, the room’s bare wood, light interiors and mirrored wall make it a fresh welcome for any morning events. The room isn’t isolated from the main restaurant space which provides the right amount of casual privacy for both serious meetings and private celebrations alike. Use the sliding entrance doors to close off as you feel necessary.

I have always been a fan of Dan Doherty and his food. Having visited the restaurant with friends and family on many occasions, it has never ever failed to impress my guests. We had the obligatory Duck & Waffle which goes without explanation and has the usual sweet-yolky-fatty praise associated with this signature dish. We also took on the Full Elvis which is a waffle dish to challenge any sweet tooth – Peanut Butter, Jelly, Banana, Chantilly Cream and “all the trimmings”. The richness of this dish isn’t for the faint-hearted and I even had to leave some (I can assure you this is not a habit of mine…!) The caramelised banana is delicious and warming. Their group menus for the private dining room differ a little from the main restaurant as they include the feasting style that will encourage your guests to interact and connect over both the views and food.

Their delicate teapots give a nod to their Asian sister at Sushi Samba and we appreciate how they seem to take care of reserving enough tables without losing the intimacy of the dining experience. The open kitchen gives a welcoming buzz in the background for diners. It also gives you the opportunity to track the number of Duck & Waffle served and by our count this City restaurant isn’t falling in popularity.
