PRIVATE DINING ROOM & RESTAURANT BLOG

Spotlight: Cinnamon Bazaar

April 13, 2017

Vivek Singh brings the Cinnamon touch to Maiden Lane and has created a magnificently authentic offering within the tourist buzz of Covent Garden. Private Dining London has visited to taste the colour of their private dining experience for ourselves.

What strikes us upon arrival is the vibrant entrance decorated in fresh greens. This reveals an equally vibrant interior draped with greens, red, pinks and golds which is beautifully elegant with a light and welcoming feel. The maître-d’ takes us to our table and he’s the most charming Italian with a clear passion for the Asian cuisine that his team are serving.

The lofty main dining space of the restaurant is on the ground floor and the private dining space can be found upstairs. The private dining room is named Khari Baoli after the popular spice market street in Delhi and the elegantly vibrant décor of downstairs continues upstairs too. The room is recommended for groups of 12 to 26 guests in a seated arrangement and features natural light, its own private bar and two large, unique ceiling fans. Expect set menus featuring popular dishes from the a la carte menu. For standing events, the room can accommodate up to 30 guests and is ideal for parties looking for a central location.

We’re impressed by the menu which features some familiar Asian dishes including six types of chaat and plenty of small dishes to share. Chef Singh has taken on the sharing trend of 2016 and 2017 which celebrates the social possibilities of Asian cuisine and how it can encourage diners to try multiple dishes in one sitting.  The Crab Bonda are rich balls of crab and spices which is complimented by the sweet tamarind and yoghurt in the classic Papdi Chaat. We try the melt in the mouth lamb of the Galauti Kebab alongside the freshness of the chilled lentil dumplings in the Dahi Bhalla Chaat. The starters are delicious and I think we could have feasted for a long time filling up on the sharing dishes.

However, we are tempted into trying some main courses which include the recommended Tandoori Kentish Lamb Fillet and the Lucknow style Chicken Biryani. The Biryani is served in the classic fashion within a black pot keeping it warm for the table and the Lamb neck is tender. The cashew nut masala leaves us wanting more. The desserts are crowd pleasers but for us the real specialty of Cinnamon Bazaar lies in the deliciousness of the sharing dishes and main courses. We will be visiting again as soon as possible!
