Spotlight: Gillray's

The Library Private Dining Room Waterloo Gillray's

Finding a private dining room in the London Waterloo area can be a challenge so when we were invited to Gillray’s we snapped up the chance to discover something new in the SE1 area of our restaurant radar.

Gillray’s can be found within the County Hall’s Marriott Hotel and in terms of ease of location, the venue has every sense of convenience and appeal for guests. Overlooking Westminster and the Southbank, any touristic group or business meeting would find the restaurant has the perfect London viewpoint. If you’re looking for good food the private dining rooms enjoy the grill menu that comes from the Gillray’s kitchen and they also offer some exciting activities for guests that are born from the mixologist at the helm of their Gin collection. Just what we like to hear at Private Dining London!

They have a whole range of private dining rooms and spaces for events including 11 private dining spaces for groups to enjoy, with a named list of rooms that would surpass the length of this blog feature. Some are styled in a familiar hotel way with wood panelling and carpeted floors but some have been modernised with a refreshed look to enjoy the natural light coming in. Our favourite room, The Library, enjoys the views and the hotel’s collection of well-presented books which lends itself well to events welcoming guests on one long, dramatic table for 50 guests.

The pop of colour from the interiors in the main restaurant teamed with the light streaming in is a delightful setting for our lunch. Rather than offering bread to diners they have large Yorkshire puddings to ease the hunger. We chose the Duck Liver Pate for starters which was presented in the most intriguing style; with the pate in an egg shell with brioche soldiers, straw and gin chutney all within an egg box. How fun (and it made a great looking photo!) From The Grill we enjoyed the “ladies” fillet pink and perfectly sized for a lunch meeting. Sometimes private dining menus can be a little too filling for lunch meetings but Gillray’s offers the ideal main course for smaller appetites, especially with delicious cuts supplied by O’Sheas butchers. Their burnt cream and vanilla dessert option offers an apt finish to a delicious Lunch.

We advise adding on a gin drinking experiences that can accompany their events menus. With over 100 different gins behind the bar, we feel that guests would not be disappointed. The restaurant is also popular for exclusive hires and weddings with a healthy budget.

Gillray’s strives to have its own identity away from the Marriott it lives in and offers an interesting menu for private dining groups. Consider their rooms to be guaranteed of the hotel standards but choose Gillray’s to be guaranteed a quality meal.
