Spotlight: Bar & Block

Kings Cross is rapidly becoming a Dinner destination you can rely on and it’s where we find Bar and Block Steakhouse on York Way. It is close to the station and means that travellers could be sitting with a glass of Prosecco in their hands within five minutes of their train arriving. Private Dining London gives this Steakhouse a try and we visit the Chef’s Table semi-private area for ourselves.

 

Bar and Block is a Whitbread restaurant and they own the Costa and Premier Inn brands which makes this visit even more intriguing. The restaurant is lively with colours and music, with the diners creating a happy buzz. The Chef’s table stands at the back of the restaurant adjacent to the kitchen so that guests can oversee the many steaks being served to diners. The table can hold up to 16 guests seated and with an open feel, we would say that it is ideal for dinner parties, team lunches and lively conversation. The Chef’s Table is the breakfast bar for the hotel guests in the morning and we are impressed with how well the area transforms for Lunch and Dinner.

When first seated we are talked through the different steak cuts and the daily specials which all sound inviting. We settle into our seats with a Pornstar Martini and an Espresso Martini. Their starters are sharing plates of restaurant favourites like the crispy Calamari and Beef Nachos whilst they also have some Steakhouse dishes such as the Burnt Ends that are caramelised

 

and rich. They’re a good warm up for the steak mains of which we opt for a spiral Fillet Steak and a Rib Eye. The two steaks are delicious and the size of the portion will make any diner very happy. We’re made even happier by the Chorizo and Feta Sweet Potato Fries, yum! We are entertained by the number of steaks on the Chef’s pass and their team are efficient and friendly which makes dining a pleasure.

 

For dessert, we indulge our childish side and opt for the Churros Sunday. We’re surprised when two huge Churros balance out of the jam jar and approach our table. Finishing utterly stuffed and indulged we have thoroughly enjoyed out visit. Because of the good food, impressive happy hour and welcoming Chef’s Table, we will certainly be returning and recommending to clients.
