Spotlight: Sea Containers Events
Private dining rooms near Waterloo and Southbank can be quite difficult to find, so when Sea Containers Events opened in 2016 event professionals everywhere celebrated another interesting space overlooking the River Thames. Private Dining London took a table for two last week for lunch and we’d love to tell you more about their events venue and catering.
Nestled above The Mondrian Hotel on Southbank, Sea Containers Events is only 5 minutes’ walk from Waterloo and Blackfriars train and tube station. The space is linked to the offices in their building and although the welcome seems quite corporate with a guest check in and a labyrinth of lifts, the bright and contemporary space is a real delight to find on the 13th floor. Their main restaurant is named Cucumber and has one of the best outlooks I’ve seen over the Thames. The interiors have a minimalistic, neutral and light design which matches the pale cloudy sky over London! Cucumber is their largest space and is available for hire for 200 standing guests for canapes and drinks receptions. They also have a main terrace above the restaurant available for event hire. Their main private dining room, The Wren Room, has an equally contemporary design and a terrace overlooking the river. Finding a terrace with this aspect is a rare find and it’s a great selling point for any group event. For private dining, the space can accommodate 30 guests on round tables or 24 guests on one table. One thing to note with the space is that groups may not be accepted if their line of business clashes with the companies within their offices so please aware that they will check!
The Cucumber a la carte menu has a good selection of 5 – 10 options per course and they’re very well thought out with a dish for everyone. We chose the Tuna Tartare and Scallops for starter and both were equally delicious. We both opted for the Lamb main course and when it was served we couldn’t help but note that the fine dining presentation would make any events group very impressed! The dessert of poached pear and chocolate sauce is a delightful end to our visit. The wine list is well thought out and the events menus are put together in the same fashion by Green & Fortune who operate the catering in the spaces.
