PRIVATE DINING ROOM & RESTAURANT BLOG

Spotlight: Northbank Restaurant

February 21, 2017

This week Private Dining London returned to the buzz of the City and took a table at Northbank Restaurant. With riverside views of The Globe, Shard, Tate and Millennium Bridge a table here will please any Londoner familiar with the best the City has to offer. We can’t help thinking about how great it is for a first date over good cocktails and delicious food (we would particularly recommend the Lavender Sour cocktail!)

Opened by Christian Butler in September 2007, Northbank celebrates the best of the British menu whilst bringing a Cornish influence from Butler’s Cornish routes. November 2016 saw John Harrison join the team as Head Chef, formerly of Ham Yard Hotel and Zetter Hotel, with his team serving a menu dotted with Fish specials that use the restaurant’s special daily deliveries of catch from the Cornish coast.

Any event that hires the full space will not only be gifted the beautiful aspect from their Northbank location overlooking the river but also the design of the restaurant allows different sections for entertaining. Their bar, as you walk in, is situated ideally for welcome drinks and networking whilst the length of the restaurant offers long table seating for up to 110 guests. They do have a semi-private dining space for up to 20 at the far end of the restaurant which is separated from other diners by a curtain to give the sense of privacy for any group wanting to enjoy the views. We would recommend the space if you have any plans for wining and dining and are looking for a private dining room in a City location which is open for Breakfast Lunch and Dinner Monday to Friday. Should you have any summer events in planning stages, their terrace is the best place to enjoy the sunshine with capacity for up to 50 guests standing.

For starters we dined on roasted Scallops and Enoki Mushrooms as well as Lime Cured Trout with Salmon Roe. Both were delicious showcases of their love for seafood and the Scallops were rich, light and caramelised. Our main course choices were the Lamb Neck with crisp sweetbreads and finished with a pistachio crumb and the Oven Roasted Quail dish, both perfect for Friday evening indulgence and served with tasty on-season root vegetables. Finishing on a quintessentially Cornish note, we had the Wet Country Cheese slate of which the Goats cheese was the star of the show and the Rhubarb Crumble Soufflé with Poach Rhubarb was really special and something we hadn’t seen on a menu before. Rhubarb and Custard in this form is one I’ll be remembering!

Their team really took care of us from Bar to Table and without a doubt Northbank provides a great experience for any guest taking a week-day seat. In particular, we recommend that you dine in their private dining room or spend the up-and-coming summer sipping Prosecco and eating West Country dishes on that beautiful terrace enjoying the iconic views of London.
